Austin is the State Capital of the Lone Star State and is centrally located within Travis, Hays and Williamson counties. The City was named after Stephen F. Austin, the Father of Texas. The Austin Round Rock Metro area (Greater Austin) has a population of almost 1.9 million people as of the 2013 U.S. census. The city provides a home for the University of Texas Longhorns, Lake Travis and Austin City Limits Music Venue. The land space of Austin that was once part of Mexico in 1830 saw the the first American settlers to arrive in what is now Austin. Shortly thereafter, settlers founded the village of Waterloo on the banks of the Colorado River which became the first permanent settlement in the area. By 1839, Waterloo would adopt the name Austin and the frontier town would become the capital of the Republic of Texas.
