The History of Colleyville
Colleyville first began as a garden farming community, with its first settlement in the 1850’s started by Samuel C.H. Witten. He became one of the founders of the Spring Garden community, and as other farmers continued to arrive throughout the 19th century, the community of Colleyville rose to prominence. As the St. Louis, Arkansas & Texas Railway extended its tracks between Fort Worth and Grapevine in the 1888, Colleyville continued to grow and nearby communities began to merge. The area of Colleyville, along with the newly re-formed community of Bransford, prospered over the next several decades and became the largest community in the area. The town had a post office, two blacksmith shops, a livery stable, four general stores, a Masons lodge and four doctors.
Although some original areas of Colleyville such as Bransford have almost completely disappeared, Colleyville survived and was incorporated on January 10, 1956. Its city limits are now contiguous with those of Grapevine and Euless on the east, Bedford and Hurst on the south, Keller and North Richland Hills on the west, and Southlake on the north. Although once a rural community, Colleyville has shown significant residential development in recent years. In 2013, the City of Colleyville had an estimated population of 24,500.
