The Naming and History of Grapevine
Grapevine derives its name from the wild mustang grapes that were abundant in the Grapevine Prairies. It is the oldest settlement in Tarrant County, originating under the Lone Star flag of the Republic of Texas in 1844. When peace was finally settled between native Indians and the Republic of Texas, the first settlers started arriving on Grapevine prairies in covered wagons. Today, the city has grown into a thriving center of culture, commerce and the Grapevine hospitality industry. Currently, nearly 50,000 people call Grapevine home. Grapevine honors and preserves its history through programs and preservation efforts. Venues such as the buildings along Historic Main Street, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, Nash Farm, the Settlement to City Museums and more combine to remind locals and visitors alike about the history and heritage of this amazing city.
