Highland Park is a small close-knit community in Central Austin Texas. Many of the residents are united and bound together by strong relationships and common interests. Highland Park provides quick access to major roadways such as MoPac, 222 and Capital of Texas Highway. It’s just minutes away from downtown and about 20 minutes from the airport. Most of the neighborhood areas in Highland Park are very walkable, and everywhere you go you’ll find large beautiful trees. There are many places to explore including parks with picnic tables, walking trails, soccer fields, Perry Park, the Colorado river, Bright Leaf Preserve and a resevior at the end of Ridge Oak Drive. Highland Park is divided up into many smaller neighborhoods and they’re all part of the Highland Park Balcones Area Nighborhood Association.
Highland Park West is an established neighborhood that is also part of the larger Highland Park Balcones Area Neighborhood Association. They are dedicated to the preservation and improvement of Highland Park’s beautiful tress, parks and charming homes. Construction of Highland Park West began in the 1940’s, but most of the homes were built in the 1950’s and 60’s. You will find 1 and 2 story homes with styles including traditional, mid-century modern, craftsman and contemporary. There are everything from small bungalows to stately homes with views of the city and river. Many of the homes have been remodeled or added on to, however, there are a few homes that are still in their original state. Home prices begin in the high 300,000’s price range and go to over 1 million, with the average home is at 650,000. What you’ll always find in Highland Park are beautiful mature trees on large lots.
The homes in Highland Park West are near some really good schools . Highland Park Elementary has an exemplary rating and earned the Blue Ribbon Award for academic achievement. The middle school is Lamar, which just became the Fine Arts Academy and McCallum High School has long been the districts fine arts magnet program. In September of 2011, a new state of the art performing McCallum Arts Center was opened on the McCallum Campus.
Various amenities in the area include Russell’s Bakery and Chez Zee Bistro, as well as over 150 other businesses within their boundaries. Chances are that you’ll run into a friend or neighbor. Parents will want to take advantage of Crenshaw’s Athletic Club, which is good for after school activities, gymnastics and summer camp.
