Hurst is part of the Mid-Cities area between Fort Worth and Dallas in Tarrant County. The City of Hurst was named after William Letchworth Hurst (Uncle Billy) In 1909. In 1903, he agreed to allow the railroad to lay down tracks on his land that would connect Fort Worth and Dallas with the condition that a train stop be established there, and a depot built and given his name. The city was officially given the name Hurst in 1909.
Hurst was incorporated as a general law city on September 25, 1952. Today, economic development is striving and maintaining a high quality of life by promoting an efficient and orderly development of private properties, as well as encouraging the growth of business and enhancement of property values within the community. The Economic Development staff makes itself readily available to work with the business community on projects of all sizes to promote those goals. Hurst desires to develop programs to retain, expand, and attract business to the area. Hurst’s population today is estimated to be 38,448 according to U.S. Census data for 2013.
